Bible Verses About Giving

What are Bible Verses about Giving?

The Bible has a lot to say about giving. Jesus Christ is a generous giver, and He wants us to be generous as well. In the Bible, we see that giving is an act of worship. It is an expression of thankfulness. And it is something that we should do joyfully. When we give generously, we are imitating the character of God.

Why Should We Give?

One of the main reasons why we should give is because God has given us so much. Such sacrifices have allowed us to reap the harvest of His generosity. He has given us life, forgiveness, salvation, and His Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. When we think about all that God has given us, such sacrifices should motivate us to give generously to others.

Another reason why we should give is that giving blesses others. When we give our time, money, or resources to help someone in need, we are blessing them in a very practical way. Giving also shows that we trust God. When we give even when it is difficult to do so, it shows that we trust that God will provide for us.

What does the Bible Say About Giving?

There are many Bible verses about giving. Here are a few of them:

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke‬ 6:38)

A good measure pressed down shaken together and running over blessing means that when we give, God is going to reward us beyond our expectations.

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians‬ 9:7)

Giving is a decision. It is not an impulse. And cheerfully giving can be done through the help of the Holy Spirit.

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)‬

God will never withhold good from His children. Our Lord Jesus knows our needs and He delights in giving. He gives not only what we ask for but even more!

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” (1 Timothy 6:10)

We can bring so much blessing to one person. God can use us to be His hand and give to the needy. That is His design for us. He blesses us so we can be a blessing to others, and ultimately to all the nations. That is why He carefully warns us about the love of money. Because not only can it control us, but it can also take our eyes off Jesus.

As we can see from these verses, giving is something that we should do generously and cheerfully. It is also something that we should do without expecting anything in return. When we give out of a pure heart, God blesses us in return.

Characteristics of God as a Giver

When we think about giving, we should think about the character of God as a giver. Here are some of the characteristics of God as a giver:

He is a generous giver.

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake, he became poor so that you by his poverty might become rich.” – 2 Corinthians 8:9‬

He is a sacrificial giver.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John‬ ‭‬3:16

He gives without expecting anything in return.

If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.” – Luke‬ 6:32 ‭

He gives good gifts.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” – James 1:17

As we can see, God is a generous and sacrificial giver. He gives without expecting anything in return. When we give generously, we are imitating the character of God.

How To Be A Good Giver

If you want to be a good giver, here are some things that you can do:

Give generously.

“One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.” Proverbs 11: 24

Give sacrificially.

They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.Acts: 2:45

Give without expecting anything in return.

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.Philippians 2:3-4

When we give generously, sacrificially, and without expecting anything in return, we are imitating the character of God. When we do this, we will be blessed by God.

Giving is something that we should do generously and cheerfully. It is also something that we should do without expecting anything in return. When we give out of a pure heart, God blesses us in return. God loves a cheerful giver.

Bible Verses about Giving to Others

Bible Verses About Giving

Matthew 10:42

“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”

We are called to give to the needy, to the poor widow, and the poor brother. God is not looking for grand gestures. Even the small things we do for others, matter to Christ. When we do that, God’s love abides in us.

1 Timothy‬ ‭6:17

“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”

When we give, our left hand should not know what our right hand has given. Our left hand should remain humble, as our hearts should.

Rewards of a Giver

Proverbs‬ ‭19:17

Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.”

When we are kind to the poor and give to them, God will reward us for what we have done. When we give generously and sacrificially, God blesses us in return. So let’s be generous givers today.

2 Corinthians‬ ‭9:10

“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.”

When we give to others, God will bless us in return. He will supply us with everything we need and increase the harvest of our righteousness. So let’s be generous givers today! Bless someone by giving to them! You will be blessed in return!

2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

We can see from this verse, God can bless us abundantly. He is a generous and gracious God who provides for us generously.

Bible Verses about Giving Thanks

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

God tells us to give thanks all the time, regardless of the circumstances we face. The challenges that we face in life are only for a season but His peace lasts for a lifetime.

Psalms 118:24

This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

In all our days, we give thanks to God. We wake up each day, excited about what He has in store for us, anticipating how He can use us to be a blessing to others.

Giving thanks to God is not just about giving money. Our words and prayers are like a good-smelling perfume to Christ.

Giving as a Form of Worship

Romans‬ ‭12:1

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”

When we give our lives to God and offer ourselves as living sacrifices, this is true worship. When we give generously and sacrificially out of a pure heart, God accepts us and blesses us abundantly. So let’s worship God today by being generous givers. Remember, that He delights in a cheerful giver.

Mark 12:42-44

“But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

The story of the poor widow is a perfect example of pure worship. The rich putting large amounts did not impress Christ. Instead, He looked at the small copper coins placed by the widow and showed His disciples that He is not after the amount but the heart that comes when we give to Christ and give to the needy.
