11 Reassuring Bible Verses About Letting Go

Bible verses about letting go assist us to let go of the weakness we may feel at difficult times and become strengthened by the teachings of God.

In my mind, “Letting go” is one of those easier said than done phrases. Some things and people get so close to us that in our eyes, they feel like they have been connected directly to our life source and that there is no possible way to let them go.

But, the truth is, if barnacles can be removed, if molds and mildew can be cleaned away, if things that look permanent turn out to be temporary, then we can find it in ourselves to let go of the things and people that are preventing us from being the best versions of ourselves.

What are Bible Verses about Letting Go

The Bible is an excellent source of advice and wake-up calls. By turning to the Bible, we will see and hear what God is telling us. Sometimes, we get so used to how things are in our lives that we fail to see how they should be. When you need to let go of something withholding you from doing the right thing, Bible verses about letting go can offer powerful words of advice and encouragement.

Sadly, we choose to suffer to keep the status quo at times. We hold on to unhealthy practices, things, and people simply because we dread changes in our lives. If this is the case, we should consider that change may be the best thing we can hope for. Bible verses about letting go provide us the courage and wisdom to let go of the shame and guilt that can stop us from pursuing righteousness.

God is always with us and if we feel anxious about all the changes we face in the future after we let go, let us remember that we can let go of anything but God will still be there with us, giving comfort and strength. We do not have anything to be afraid of if God holds our hand.

Best Bible Verses About Letting Go

Bible verses about letting go of the past

Ephesians 4:31-32

“Get rid of all bitterness, rage, and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Our past can be full of bad memories that other people caused intentionally or unintentionally. It may be hard to let things go and forgive, but we have to remember that God forgave us of everything and made us new. If anyone can help us find the strength the forgive people, it would be God.

Isaiah 43:18-19

“But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”

Our past and our response to it are why we are who we are today. We might like who we are today, or we may not. No matter the case, the past is already done, even if we treasure it or loathe it. We should look forward to what God is doing and will do in our lives.

Bible verses about letting go of someone you love

Isaiah 43:2

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

Letting go of people who have been a part of our lives hurts. Sometimes, it might feel like we are drowning because we feel overwhelmed, or we may hurt so much that it feels like our heart is burning, but the good news that we can hold on to is that God is always with us, and He will never let us go especially when we are hurting.

Psalm 34:18

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Losing people or letting them go can cause a significant strain on our hearts and spirits, but we always have the assurance of God’s presence and love in our lives.

Bible verses about letting go of hurt

Romans 12:19

“Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord.”

More often than not, our immediate reaction to being hurt is plotting how we can get them back on it, but God tells us to stop and trust that He will justly serve His vengeance on anyone who hurts others.

Matthew 6:14-15

“If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Forgiveness is a big part of letting go, and Jesus even commands us to do it, saying that our forgiveness of others is the key to our forgiveness.

Bible verses about letting go of things you can’t control

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Humans are always concerned about the future, and we are often worried about the things happening in our present. Things might not be making sense, or we might be having a hard time understanding why these things are happening, but God is always planning something grand for us, and by knowing this and claiming this, we can know peace.

Romans 8:28

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

No matter how chaotic things are right now, God has a plan for us, and we should never forget that our lives have a purpose.

Bible verses about letting go of the guilt

Proverbs 28:13

“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.”

Holding on to our guilt can sabotage the great plans we have for ourselves and God’s plans for us. Guilt robs us of the peace and confidence that we need to prosper in life, so we can let this guilt go by confessing to God and trusted people and doing our best to make amends and changes in our lives.

Ephesians 1:7-8

“In him, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us.”

Guilt should only be present in our lives to remind us that we have done something wrong, but we should never think of it as unforgivable because Jesus had already saved us and cleansed us of all the darkness in our lives when He gave up His life for us on the cross.

Bible verses about letting go of unhealthy relationships

Proverbs 4:25-27

“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”

One of life’s hard truths is that not all of our relationships are healthy and beneficial to us. Some are unhealthy or toxic, so we have to let go of them. Holding on to these kinds of relationships would only drag us down and prevent us from reaching the full potential that God has in store for us.

But the fact that letting go of relationships is hard remains, but God is always there with us, and for us, so we should keep our eyes forward and not leave any space for us to be distracted by memories or cravings for vengeance. Instead, we should let go, forgive, and focus on our healing.

In Summary

I appreciate you for recognizing the need to let go or help someone let go of things in their lives, and you chose to explore the Word of God. We can find the best guidance, comfort, and promises in the Bible.

If we feel confused, lost, or scared, God is with us, and He is telling us that everything will be okay if we obey His will because He wants nothing but the best for us. As a plant is pruned to be healthier and better, we should let go of some things in our lives.
