10 Important Bible Verses on Diligence

It is not always easy to be diligent on everything, so here are Bible verses on diligence to encourage and guide you.

The world has defined diligence as being persistent in both work and effort. When we think about diligence, we usually think about responsibilities. We must deliver quality at work. We have a duty to our family, church, and even government.

To successfully perform all these responsibilities, we must have diligence by our side. Diligence will drive us to meet all these responsibilities. We also have a responsibility, a duty, to God. We need the diligence to succeed in this aspect as well.

What are Bible Verses on Diligence?

Being a Christian is having a relationship with God. It does not end with the decision to let Him into our lives. It does not end with a prayer or an offering. Christianity is a way of life, and part of it is aiming to be closer to God and follow His commands.

Bible verses on diligence can help us clarify what we should and should not do. These Bible verses can also help us get our priorities in order. They will also bring us comfort and encouragement. Bible verses on diligence also bring promises of rewards if we remain diligent.

What Does the Bible Say About Diligence?

It is clear from the Bible that God expects diligence from His followers. Jesus is not physically in the world anymore, and it is our turn to be His hands and feet. We are the body of Christ, and we are expected to do as He would.

Jesus has always been diligent in all aspects of His life. He was diligent in His ministry, His teachings, and His purpose. Jesus set an example for us, and we should follow Him. Just as He was diligent in everything and dedicated everything to God, so should we.

Best Bible Verses on Diligence

Bible verses on diligence at work

Proverbs 13:4

“Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper.”

God is the best parent, and He wants us to be independent and stand our ground. All this takes work, but it is the best for us, and we need to be diligent.

Colossians 3:23

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”

It does not always feel good to serve others but whenever this happens, remember who we are doing it for and keep going.

Bible verses on diligence in Bible study

2 Timothy 2:15

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

Being a good Christian and being closer to God takes work. Doing our best and making all the effort we can to be closer to God and others will be rewarded, but these works would also build credibility for us when it comes to the matters of the faith.

Deuteronomy 6:17

“You must diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and his decrees, and his statutes that he has commanded you.”

God did not give us suggestions; He gave us commandments. We have to obey these and to know more of what God’s will is in our lives, we must work hard and be diligent in studying His Word.

Bible Verses on Diligence

Bible verses on diligently seeking God in prayer

Philippians 3:14

“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”

The goal is to be closer to God and to do this, we must always be diligent in seeking Him and His will and submitting to Him.

2 Peter 3:14

“And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.”

We do not know about nor understand so many things in this world. But we should always seek God and aim to be the best we can be every day.

Bible verses on diligence and laziness

Proverbs 10:4

“Lazy people are soon poor; hard workers get rich.”

Although we cannot generalize and say that all rich people are hardworking and all poor people are lazy, we cannot deny that there is always a reward waiting for those who work hard and do the best they can.

2 Thessalonians 3:10

“Even while we were with you, we gave you this command: “Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.”

As Christians, it is in our nature to always want to help however we can, but sometimes, the best help we can give a person is to deny the support they are asking for and provide them with something more beneficial instead.

Bible verses on diligence in service to God and others

Galatians 6:9

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.”

Doing good is a must in a Christian’s life because we represent God, and the way we interact with others can determine if they would want to get closer to God or not, so we should never forget to do good and, in doing so, lead others to God and receive the rewards.

James 1:12

“God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”

No one is exempt from trials and temptations, but Christians must overcome these and remain faithful to God. This way, we can enjoy the rewards of staying in God.
