What are Condolences Prayer?

A condolences prayer is a prayer we say for ourselves and others when we mourn the loss of a loved one.

It reminds us of God’s love and faithfulness amidst a soul-breaking period.

A condolence prayer helps us rise above the weight of grief, keep going, and be hopeful for tomorrow.

Significance of Condolences Prayer

We understand that prayer is not an instant fix for the pain of losing a loved one.

However, as believers, we know that God’s Word and His presence bring healing, especially when we unite in prayer for others.

Praying for those who mourn and are in pain may do wonders for their weary and despairing spirits.

A condolence prayer lifts a family or friend to God when they are too worn out and hurt.

When a friend or family member is grieving, a condolence prayer provides comfort and extends God’s grace to them in this time of loss and need.

Famous Condolences Prayer

Eternal Rest from the Book of Ezra

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May they rest in peace. Amen.

Prayers of Our Heart by Vienna Cobb Anderson

Prayer for those who Mourn—Bless those who mourn, eternal God, with the comfort of your love so that they may face each new day with hope and the certainty that nothing can destroy the good that has been given.

May their memories become joyful, their days enriched with friendship, and their lives encircled by your love.

When Peace Like a River, a hymn by Horatio Gates Spafford

When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll; whatever my lot, thou has taught me to say, “It is well, it is well with my soul.” It is well with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come, let this blest assurance control: that Christ has regarded my helpless estate and has shed his own blood for my soul.

It is well with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul.

My sin, oh, the bliss of the glorious thought!

My sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more; praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

It is well with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul.

O Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight, the clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend; even so, it is well with my soul.

It is well with my soul; it is well, it is well with my soul.
