5 Powerful Prayers Against Your Enemies

Of all the prayers against enemies in the Bible, more prayers that King David wrote are the most popular.

Nobody is perfect. One way or another, we have been offended, or have offended someone. Whether intentional or not, sometimes these moments will turn anybody into enemies. However, there are also moments where there is somebody who simply wishes ill of you even if you treat them with respect. These enemies plotting evil against you are rooted in jealousy, fear, and inferiority.

Dealing with an enemy can scale from a peaceful reconciliation to a heated argument. There were a lot of personal experiences for me as a Christian to know that it is quick to throw in hurtful words that come from impulse reactions. While it is normal to go in over your head during a heated argument, I realized that I should respond to my enemies as a Christian.

As a Christian, I live a prayer life centered on the teachings of God the Father and Jesus Christ. So, whenever I must deal with an enemy, I use the power of prayer. But should I pray for my enemies, or should I pray against them? In this article, you might find the answers on how to use prayer as a tool when you face adversaries.

Prayer Against Enemies

What is a Prayer Against Enemies?

A prayer against an enemy is an appeal to God for justice and deliverance from your enemies. As Christians, we are indeed taught to love our enemies as we love our friends and neighbors. However, there is a thin line between loving an enemy and asking for justice for the afflictions brought by them.

Our Lord God is a merciful Father, and even we must forgive one another as He forgave us. But God also is a God of justice. Prayer for our enemies and praying against them can be easily interchanged especially if we do not think through our situation with them.

Praying against enemies is one that seeks justice for the inflicted wounds through God’s eyes of righteousness. We do not pray against enemies just because we want God to punish them. In as much as we want fairness for the score between us and the enemy, we ought to do it and leave the work to the Lord our God. Praying against the enemy can be your best tool in dealing with a rival that you have given a lot of chance to pass but is persistent in destroying you.

What Does the Bible Say About Prayer Against the Enemies

God despises evil and disobedience. Throughout the Bible accounts mainly in the Old Testament, we are witness to God’s wrath on those who turned to the darkness of evil and disobeyed Him. God punished the enemies waging war through a raging flood. He extended mighty destruction to those who chose to worship an evil shrine. But we also saw how God forgave the same people who disobeyed Him. God loves them enough to deliver His promise of abundant life, and for destruction to befall their enemies.

Praying against the enemies is expected in the Bible. One Psalm is dedicated as a full prayer and appeal to God to not let the enemy prevail and declare victory against their enemy.

Psalm 109: A Prayer Against Enemies in the Bible

Psalm 109 is a Psalm of David, and is considered one of the most imprecatory prayers. This specific Psalm is about King David’s glorious calling for God’s spiritual forces to take utter destruction against his enemies.

It is a prayer against one’s enemies that is worthy of praise. Why? Because David left all the power of the very destruction of his enemies to God. He can send his army as a weapon formed for the utter end of every adversary scheming evil counsel against him. But he did not. He called for God and surrendered the seeking of justice in heavenly places.

What Should I Pray Against My Enemies?

Dealing with the wicked enemy physically can lead to serious consequences. Physical revenge often leads to undesirable acts and even unlawful ones. As Christians, if we already prayed for justice and deliverance to the Lord, we ought to leave it to the hands of the heavenly Father. So, what should you pray against the enemy? Here are five prayers against the enemy for different circumstances that might help you discern and pray over when you face your rival.

Prayer against the Enemy

A good prayer against the enemy is to start praying for deliverance from their hatred. Here’s a guide to help you start out praying.

These I ask through the mighty name of Jesus Christ,

Amen.

While the workplace is a potential place to develop good relationships, it is not a secret that one can have enemies at work. It can be through career pressure or just plain rivalry. If you have an enemy at work, this is a prayer guide for protection against enemies at work.

Lord God, together with Jesus Christ my Savior, I appeal for your mercy and mighty hands. Envelope me with your soulful protection so that I may be safe from the enemies working with me and all possible evil works the enemies set for my downfall. I pray for the Holy Spirit to extend their protective shield for me at work so I may give my best effort without looking at my back.

I ask these through the mighty name of Lord Jesus,

Amen.

But if the damage has been done and the enemies of your life and destiny concoct evil continually, warfare prayers such as asking for justice against enemies from God are a must. If you are unsure where to start, I have put up a guide on what to pray for justice against enemies.

Lord God, in your name all the enemies, tremble. No evil and enemies round after your whip of justice. You help the afflicted to acclaim justice. You delivered victory through spiritual warfare all the time. I pray upon your holy name for justice against the evil one who inflicted wickedness in my life. I pray that you shall recompense tribulations against them and that justice that is due to them shall be served.

In Jesus’ mighty name, I ask all these,

Amen.

Prayer Against Enemies

Prayer against envious enemies

Sometimes even if you are not doing anything wrong, enemies just pile up because of envy. Envy, which is one of the seven ways to acquire capital sin, is a deadly source of the enemy. You can start praying against an envious enemy by using the guide below.

Lord Jesus, you are my Savior,

Your name cast light on any darkness. You are my source of talents and supplications. I pray that whoever shall envy what you gave me shall be redeemed so that they may realize that the love God gave them is enough and that envying somebody else’s talents is a sin. Direct them, Lord, to your path of righteousness and cast out those giving evil counsel to them against others. So that they can use what talent was given to them for the glory of your name.

Amen.

Prayer for God to Fight Your Battles

Many would say revenge is sweet. Some would even take it far just to have their long-coveted revenge against their enemies. But you don’t need to inflict the same wound on your enemy. You don’t need to personally even the score with them. Because God will do it for you. Here’s a beautiful pray for God to fight your battles.

Dearest Lord, my protector, and loving Father. Deep in my heart, I know that your hands’ weather all my adversary. You invited me as your child, your flesh and own bloodMy heart is wounded, and my pride is lost to the enemy. Help me Lord to fight this battle according to your mercy. I surrender this fight to you so that they may know what power shall befall them. I will forever praise you and your mighty name for you never fail to stand firm for your children on the right side of justice and save them from those who condemn them.

Together with Jesus Christ, your Son, and my Savior, I declare victory against my enemies,

Amen!

When Should I Pray Against My Enemies?

When we are offended, the knee-jerk reaction as humans is to inflict the pain back. To settle the score. To make them feel what wicked pain we have suffered. But over time, we learn self-control and stand firm in our Christian discipline to deal with these circumstances and choose the better way to handle them.

When feeling conflicted and afflicted, we turn to pray to the Father. A short-lived conflict between you and another person can be easily sorted out by kind words and compromises. But a deep-rooted grudge between you and an enemy is a fight you should surrender to the Lord. This is when you should pray against the enemy. Under the working of the Holy Spirit and God’s righteousness, pray that He will defend you from the evil doings of your enemy.

You do not need to count the evil machinations they inflicted on you, because God knows every injustice your enemies fashioned against you. Remember His promise in Jeremiah 17:10, “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”

Claim victory over the enemy and God will surely give it to you. He did it to David and his people, so He will give it to you too.

Psalm 17:13-14

Psalm 5:10

Psalm 83:16-18

Is it Acceptable to Pray Against My Enemies as a Christian?

As Christians, we are taught to never wish ill of another. The question now is, as a Christian, is it alright to pray against our enemies? While the more common approach in dealing with the enemy through prayer is to pray for them, it is but a must to also pray against them instead of taking revenge against them yourself. We have read that throughout the stories in the Bible, praying against the enemy is a shared practice of those afflicted and on the right side of justice.

This is because our Lord is a righteous God. He does not look away from injustice and let the wrong overpower the good. Especially when His child appeals for His justice in mercy. As Paul has written in one of his letters, he described in detail the promise of the Lord regarding fairness.

In 2 Thessalonians 1:5-6, Paul had written, “This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you.”

Thus, it is acceptable to pray against the enemy as a Christian, especially if you are in the light of God’s truth.

Prayer Against Enemies

Conclusion

Justice and righteousness were never meant for humans to practice, to begin with. The only righteous eye to weigh which act should be rewarded or punished is God’s. Praying against the enemy will be your most powerful tool in eliminating your adversaries. By surrendering the battle to the Lord, you will be comforted that no injustice shall pass from the eyes of God, and He will deliver you from your enemies.

Victory against the enemy is best achieved if it is God-given. Remember, our Lord is a God of justice and fairness, and He shall protect you and make sure that no enemy oppressing His child will go unpunished. Thus, pray for deliverance from your enemies, and that God bless them with Jesus’ mighty name to a renewed life with the Holy Ghost.
