When your trouble is too much to bear, asking through prayer for help from God will remind you that God actually listens and He actually helps.
Saying a prayer for God’s help does not always come easy, especially when we cannot find the words to say because of overwhelming emotions. “God help me!” may not always be enough to convey our concerns and feelings. Aside from a way of communicating with God, prayers can serve as a release for us.
Being able to voice out our feelings to Someone who loves us dearly is a blessing. A prayer can go a long way. The scripture is full of prayers crying out to God for help. May the troubles of this life bring us closer to God and others.
What Does a Prayer for Help from God Look Like?
We must ask God for help right away. When we are in trouble, a lot of times, people usually rush to call their loved ones or do a Google search instead of calling out to God. So, how should we ask God for help? We should pray with the right intentions at heart. Our hearts must not be selfish, nor must they seek trouble for other people.
No matter what we are going through or how we are feeling, we should always pray with thanksgiving. We should look for things to be thankful for. It will remind us of how God has been faithful to us in the past and how He would remain faithful to us now.
We have to believe when we pray. We must believe in God, His power, His will, and His perfect time. There should not be fear or timidity in our prayers. Our God is mighty, and His love for us is great. Never give up on your prayer. As the Apostle Paul taught, “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
We should cast our fear and concerns at the Lord’s feet when we pray. He might not answer immediately, but this does not mean that there is a problem with your prayer life or your relationship with God. It just means that the best is yet to come, and we must have faith in that.
Bible Characters Who Prayed to God for Help
Hannah
Hannah lived in the early days when women who failed to have children were considered failures or cursed. She wanted a child so badly that she kept praying for God to give her a son. She even promised to dedicate him to God when the time came.
Hannah knew what it was like to be mocked, and she knew what it was like to be deprived of your heart’s desire. But, because of her faith, she was not just given Samuel but also other sons and daughters. People used to use her as an example of despair, but God turned her life into an example of a miracle.
David
David wrote most of the psalms, and we can read many psalms asking God for help. It is no surprise because David’s life is a clear testament to God’s help and guidance. Whenever David did not know what to do, he prayed to God. I believe that one of the reasons why he was called a “man after God’s own heart” (Acts 13:22) is his rich prayer life.
From fighting Goliath to running from Saul to being king of Israel, to slipping and falling from grace, David was always there praying for God’s help and mercy. David’s psalms prove that we do not need the most popular prayers to say a powerful prayer. We need faith in the one true God even in uncertain times.
Bartimaeus
A lot of people may not have heard of Bartimaeus yet, but he is one inspiring man who gave one of the most powerful prayers in the Bible. No, he did not deliver a 500-word prayer with highfaluting words. His prayer is only a sentence long. Bartimaeus said, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” He was asking Jesus to heal his blindness.
Then, he threw away his cloak when Jesus Christ called for him. It might seem insignificant, but blind people in those days have special cloaks to signal to others that they are blind and make way for them. Bartimaeus threw away his cloak, believing that Jesus Christ would heal him. And He did.

Prayer for help from God in times of trouble
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
Lord Jesus Christ,
When life gets tough, it is often hard to see the good. Seeing you and your mercies through the confusion and pain can be challenging. Please do not let me forget how faithful you have been in the past. Please remind me of your love and peace now as I feel weak. I cannot go through this without you, Father. Please carry me through these challenging times. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for comfort from God
“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
Heavenly Father,
I know that you are powerful beyond comprehension. I know that you are making way for me and the Holy Spirit intercedes for me. But sometimes, it is hard to believe the things that I already know in my mind. Please let my heart feel the strong faith I felt when I first believed in you.
I pray, Father, that this hardship would not be enough to distance me from you. I know that Christ conquered death and that you are more than powerful enough to defeat my troubles. May you find me strong enough to hold on to my faith while you work through me. In your name, Amen.
Prayer for help from God in times of doubt
“And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:23-24)
Dear God,
You say that you give us eternal life and that you are a good Father who gives us gentle love. I want to believe, Lord and I want to believe that you are the living God. I find myself questioning everything. Many people have told me that God promises many great things, but right now, I cannot see past my doubts. I do not want to be in this place, Lord.
I do not want the darkness in this world to disprove my faith in you. Please help me defeat my doubts. Please help me trust in you, your might, and your love. Help me focus on the good things I see in this world, not the bad.
Please let me stand firm in my faith and help me see that you are trustworthy even in my direst situation. Please give me hope and help me draw closer to you. May these hard times let me see you. Lord, please help my unbelief. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for help from God in times of illness
“Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.” (Jeremiah 17:14)
Dear God,
My strength is failing. I believe that you are the divine physician and the one real God we can count on. I know that the Holy Spirit is working in me. At this moment, Lord, I am fighting fear and my grief. I know that you have let your only Son die a brutal death because of your great love for us. I pray for your love to become more powerful than the fear and pain I carry today. This is my prayer today in the name of our Lord Jesus, Amen.
Prayer for strength from God
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
Dear Jesus,
You are a very present help for those seeking peace and strength. I know that you are our dearest comforter in heaven and earth. You have given us your scripture to draw strength from, but God, I am praying for hope in this simple prayer. I am feeling weak, Lord.
I want to be strong enough to face everything that is going on in my life, and I need you. May Paul’s words be true in my life. I pray that God’s strength is granted to me to be triumphant. May the Holy Spirit bring comfort in these times of trouble. In your name, Amen.
H.E.L.P. Prayer in Psalms
H – Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. (Psalms 86:1)
E – Establish my footsteps in Your word, and do not let any wrongdoing have power over me. (Psalms 119:133)
L – Let your compassion quickly meet our needs, for we are on the brink of despair. (Psalms 79:8)
P – Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge. (Psalms 16:1)
Heavenly Father,
Hear me, Father, as I grieve today. I sought the scripture for an answer and long to hear your word. Also, I pray for the Spirit’s sensitivity today because I want to feel you. I want to know your will in my life, in all this chaos around me. Father, please help me resist gossip no matter how tempting it might be.
In times of seemingly unnecessary attacks, please teach me to leave justice into your hands. May my daily prayer bring you glory and grant me strength. God, help me. In the Lord’s name, I pray, Amen.
Conclusion
It is not always easy to admit that we are not strong enough. It can be hard to ask for help. But, remember that God loves us beyond anything this world can comprehend, and He has promised He will never leave us nor forsake us. I know that the world teaches us to fix our problems and that we are weak if we cannot.
God tells us otherwise. He is our parent and will never take joy from seeing His children suffer. Have faith. God is on our side, and He will never judge us for asking for help. Like a good parent, He will always delight in hearing from His children and ensuring they are alright.
