5 Powerful Prayer Points Christians Should Be Praying

Prayer points serve as our guide in organizing our thoughts so we don’t miss out on the important things.

For Christians, one’s prayer life is of utmost importance. It is our means of communication with God and our gateway to His presence. Through prayer, we let the Holy Spirit direct our lives and make miracles in it.

Each one of us has our special way of laying out our prayers to God. And although prayers don’t require a certain arrangement, it is nice to have prayer points to guide us and help make sure that we live the kind of life God wants for us.

Whatever we ask for in prayer, it could be for a financial breakthrough, thanksgiving, or repentance, prayer points will help make us confident in our prayers.

What are Prayer Points?

Our inspiration in composing our prayers is Luke 11:1-4, in which Jesus teaches His disciples how to pray.

Prayer points are a list of the things that we want to pray for. No matter what our prayers may be about, prayer points suggest that we begin our prayers with thanksgiving, followed by the humble admittance of our sinfulness.

Then, if we have specific requests, we can say them in the middle. And finally, we can end our prayers with the declaration of our faith that God knows what’s best for us. That even after all that we asked of Him in prayer, His will be done.

What is the Importance of Prayer Points?

Prayer points serve as a guide and help organize our thoughts. It could be a prayer about thanksgiving, asking for forgiveness, or a request for good health. It could also be in the form of personal or corporate prayer with our family members or church.

Will God not understand our prayers if we don’t prepare prayer points? Won’t He grant our prayers if we don’t follow a certain format? Of course not.

God knows what we were going to ask before we even say them. And even if He doesn’t give us what we asked for, it doesn’t mean we aren’t worthy of God’s love. When this happens, it’s probably because what we are asking isn’t significant to our life mission. Or He simply has bigger plans than what we have in mind. It also helps that we know what we are asking for instead of just memorizing a template.

So if God knows what we were going to say, why pray? Because of God’s instruction in Matthew 21:22 which tells us that it is not our words but our faith that does the work.

How to Write Prayer Points

For the times when you aren’t sure what to pray for, we have listed down a few prayer points to help you out. You may also include these prayer points in addition to your intentions.

Walk in love

Jesus Christ dwells richly in our hearts when we walk in love. After all, it is the core of God’s commandments. To walk in love means we honor God and are full of His presence. And when we are full of the presence of our Heavenly Father, we can radiate that love to others.

Let us pray to God that we never stray from His grace because His steadfast love endures forever.

Walk by faith

Because faith is the heart of one’s Christian life, pray that we always walk by faith in God’s word in our everyday lives. God’s bigger plans often go beyond what our human mind can wrap around. So pray to our God Almighty that He guides our paths so that we may receive eternal life.

So, pray that we always walk on the right path. Trust that the Holy Spirit will point us in the right direction so that we may live in faith. Allow Jesus Christ to reign in your life today and forever.

Ask for God’s grace

No matter how sinful and unworthy we are, God still grants us unlimited favor. This doesn’t mean that we stop praying or asking for the Lord God for salvation. Pray that God may bless us continuously with His grace and mercy.

The more we receive unlimited favor, the more opportunities we have to be a blessing to others as well. Through God’s grace, we denounce the opposition fighting against us in the name of Jesus and receive unlimited success.

Ask for wisdom and revelation in God’s word.

Pray to God for wisdom and revelation through the Holy Spirit. We also help ourselves achieve wisdom by contemplating God’s word and reading the Bible day and night. This way, we know more about God and understand His plans better. Let God’s blessing multiply today by taking His word to heart and achieving revelation through the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ. Acknowledge that you receive heavenly wisdom when you allow the Holy Spirit into your life.

Fellowship of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the bringer of wisdom and the presence of the living God closer to us. Pray that the Lord God help us strengthen our relationship with Him through our fellowship with the Holy Spirit. By intimately knowing the Holy Spirit, we come into a full understanding of our purpose in life. This ultimately leads us to become better Christians.

Compassion for the lost and the unsaved world

Pray for the salvation of the last, the lost, and the least. Pray that we may be an instrument to their journey of knowing Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Ask God to touch our hearts so that we may have the compassion of Jesus Christ. This way, we may win over those who are lost back into the fold in Jesus’ name.

Remember that the Abba Father wants all the earth to inherit the blessings of heaven. Pray that the Lord bless us with the compassionate heart of our Lord Jesus so that we may become worthy of it.

Commitment to His work

May we transmit God’s blessing to our community by continuing the work that the Lord Jesus Christ left. Everything that we do, we must offer to God, all for His greater glory.

As responsible Christians, ask God that He bless us with His grace so that we may serve in our community and be committed to our work. Pray for the strength to resist the devil that prowls upon us like a roaring lion to its prey. Turn to the Holy Spirit and the power of Jesus’ name for blessings of courage and protection.

Understanding God’s will

Not everything we ask for, the Lord God gives to us outright. Sometimes it’s a hard “No,” while other times, He just delays them. Pray for patience and faith in His wisdom and timing. Understand that we were born into the world with a life mission that we need to uphold. God grants what your heart desires if it coincides with His will.

Pray for the knowledge of hidden things. Ask that we may not rely on former things but on progressive ones so that we may better understand the will of God.

Strong faith

Faith is the foundation of our Christian life. It defines our relationship with God in terms of strength. So start praying to God for a faith that grows stronger by the day. With strong faith, we stop worrying about things that we do not have control over so we can focus on our life purpose.

Jonah 2:7 says, “When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.” It tells us to turn to God when we feel our faith dwindling, and may the Lord bless us with what we lack.

Understanding personal authority as a believer

We must understand the authority of the name of Jesus Christ our Lord when the Heavenly Father placed Him on His right hand. So let us offer our lives to God and allow Him to fight for us in our spiritual warfare.

Remember Psalm 27:2, which says, “When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

May we reap God’s blessings in our spiritual life. This may be so through our acknowledgment of the authority of the Lord Christ Jesus.

Best Prayer Points with Scriptures

To guide us in our prayer life, let us refer to the word of God through prayer points found in Bible verses. Here are powerful prayer points that could help add substance to our prayers.

Thanksgiving prayer points

Psalms 100:1-4

“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”

These Bible verses tell us that in a prayer of thanksgiving, it is important to recognize that God is the Maker of everything good and right. Sing praises and thanks to God for the blessings He bestowed upon us despite our sins and unworthiness.

Prayer points for breakthrough

Matthew 19:26

“But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Powerful prayer points for breakthroughs are a declaration of our faith. It manifests our trust in the will and timing of the Heavenly Father that He has wonderful things laid out for us. Even when we don’t see the bigger picture, trust in the Lord our God and He will bless us with a financial breakthrough and redeem us from our sufferings.

Morning prayer points

Psalms 127:2

“It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.”

Praise and thank the Lord for waking us up to another day to serve Him and others. Waking up without a sense of purpose devalues our lives, so pray to God for divine protection and guidance. Let success manifest in all aspects of our lives by beginning our day with a sincere prayer.

Prayer points for singles who want to get married

Proverbs 19:14

“House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.”

Marriage is a lifetime commitment that comes with an obligation. Our vows are consecrated before the altar and therefore not to be taken lightly. Ask for the grace of God and follow in the footsteps of our Lord Jesus in every decision that we make. Fervently pray and ask God for a life partner that will bring us closer to God and fight next to us in our spiritual warfare.

Prayer points for fasting

Matthew 6:16-18

“Moreover, when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head and wash thy face;

That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.”

Fasting is not limited to food alone. It also applies to the pleasures and luxuries in life that we find difficult to let go of. It is during fasting that we are most tempted by the enemy, so pray that God arises in His anger and fights for us against evil and temptation during this time.

In these Bible verses, Christ Jesus teaches us to praise God and do good in secret so that we may reap heavenly blessings.

In Summary

We must take care of our prayer life and relationship with God. We should not only turn to God in prayer when we need to ask for something. In times when we are not in need, we should still turn to God and express our gratitude for the abundance we have received, or at least confess to our faults and seek His mercy.

Our prayers should contain substance and sincerity, otherwise, it would just be mindless grumbling. Remember that God reads the earnestness of our prayers more than the format or composition.
