7 Prayers for Family and Friends with Bible Verses

Prayers for family and friends help us nurture our connections with our loved ones and be closer to God.

Building loving relationships and a happy home includes consistency, open communication, and trust. But just like habits are impactful, so is the habit of prayer. Praying for family and friends helps build strong and resilient relationships.

Prayers for family and friends are a meaningful way to show them our appreciation, love, and protection. These prayers are significant because they help us nurture our connections with our loved ones and be closer to God.

What are Prayers for Family and Friends?

Prayers for family and friends are prayers we say to intercede on their behalf to God. Through prayer, our relationships with our family and friends become stronger and more united. There’s a quote that goes, “A family that prays together, stays together.” Aside from praying together, praying for each other during our individual prayer time is also essential.

Significance of Saying Prayers for Family and Friends

Growing up in a home where a family prays or is surrounded by friends who pray is beautiful and powerful. Prayers for family and friends express our love for friends and family. These prayers also declare that God is in charge of everything, including our relationships. They include thanksgiving for all the relationships God has blessed us with.

Also, knowing how to help a family member or friend who is going through a tough time can be challenging. To make them feel our presence, love, and care, we lift them to the Lord and offer a prayer for them.

Bible verses that inspire prayers for family and friends

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

1 John 4:20

If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar, for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.

Colossians 3:13

Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

1 Peter 4:8-10

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace:

Job 42:10-11

And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when he had prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. Then came to him all his brothers and sisters and all who had known him before and ate bread with him in his house. And they showed him sympathy and comforted him for all the evil that the Lord had brought upon him. And each of them gave him a piece of money and a ring of gold.

Ephesians 6:18

Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.

Ephesians 6:1-4

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Proverbs 17:17

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Romans 15:5

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 5:22-33

Wives, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

Husbands love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.

In the same way, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body.

“Therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

7 Powerful Prayers for Family and Friends

Thanksgiving prayer for family and friends

Dear God, I know that each relationship I have is not by accident. I praise You for orchestrating each meeting, interaction, and connection I have with others. I am thankful for my family and friends who offer me comforting companionship and who never fail to cheer me up whenever I feel low.

Through them, I know You reveal Your love and holy presence to me. Continue to bless my family and friends as You have blessed me through their lives. As long as I keep You at the center of all my relationships, I will remain grateful and loved. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

A prayer for healing

Almighty healer, I turn to You for comfort for my family and friends at this most difficult moment. Right now, we are particularly weak in flesh and spirit. Please heal my family and friends of afflictions and brokenness so they can continue serving You and sharing the gospel with others. Remove every sickness from their bodies and alleviate all their pain.

May they be blessed with the strength and determination to endure all challenges. Lay Your healing hands on them, Lord. I pray to You in hopes that Your kind grace may ease the anguish in their hearts and that peace and joy still reign in this painful time. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

For protection

Mighty protector of all, I know that even though my family, friends, and I are not physically together all the time, we are still strong in our shared faith and continue to live in Your hope. I am confident we are all under Your watchful eye since you constantly look after us. Lord, we are grateful that You have kept us safe. We ask that You continue to cover us with Your might and strength so that no evil attack can stumble and destroy us. May we never stray from Your will. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

For hope and faith in God

Lord, I offer this prayer to You for all those I love and care for deeply. Life is not easy, and their experiences put their faith in You to the test. I worry that they are starting to waver in their faith and are feeling down because of their problems. Watch over them, Lord. I know this is only a temporary setback because they are one of Your most devoted followers, Lord. Because you are the one true light that can dispel any shadow, they will eventually return to You.

I pray they remember nothing is impossible when we trust and surrender to You alone. I pray they will never forget that You are the only source of strength and will seek You whenever they feel lost or troubled. Your great and little miracles remind us that there is grace and hope amidst all our troubles. I pray that we always heed Your call and follow Your Holy Spirit, leading us to the right path and to You always. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

For peace and reconciliation

Heavenly Father, we pray to You, Lord, pardon us for allowing our pride and selfishness to get the better of us when what we feel for each other is love. In our purest of hearts, we never intend to cause each other hurt or harm. We ask You to unite us and reconcile our family and friendships. For the hurt we caused one other, may we be able to forgive each other just as You forgave us by sending your Son, Jesus Christ. May Your love fill us so we can love one another as much as Jesus Christ loved us. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Strength and comfort in times of trouble

God of miracles, I come to You today to intercede for my family and friends. Protect them from all perceived and invisible threats. Please, God, give them the fortitude to persevere through life’s hardships. Afford them the bravery to face all the challenges that lie ahead. I ask that Your divine protection always surrounds them, bringing them peace that can only be found through loving and surrendering to You, Lord. You said this world is filled with trials and trouble, but we find peace and joy in You. I am confident that my family and friends will experience your goodness and faithfulness. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Blessing prayer for family and friends

Dear God, I am grateful for the many blessings you have showered me. I pray this for my family and friends as well. I pray that as you shower them with Your loving blessings, You will open their spiritual eyes to Your love and power. Bless their days and their nights. Bless all the endeavors they engage in. And may they accept that Your Son, who paid the penalty of our wretchedness, is the best gift they can receive. It is a privilege to spend our lives as Your followers, and may all the blessings stem from this eternal gift. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Final Thoughts

Our family and friends are invaluable in our lives. Expressing our love through praying for them and asking for blessings and protection in all areas of their lives is one of the best gifts we can give them as we go through the mountaintops and valleys. We must remember the significance of saying prayers for family and friends and the power of such prayers to allow God to move in their lives. God is working all things out for the good of our family and friends (Romans 8:28). Thus, we can have faith and believe that God hears and responds to our prayers.
