7 Powerful Prayers for Strength in Difficult Times

Prayers for strength are ways of admitting to God that we cannot do things on our own and that we need Him.

Strength and courage come in different forms, and we may have different ways of looking at them, but what is for sure is that we need them sometimes in our lives.

Occasionally, we have no idea where we would get the strength to overcome whatever is going on in our lives.

Bible verses and prayers for strength can help a great deal.

What are Prayers for Strength?

Unfortunately, our strength is not always enough to deal with, cope with, and succeed with things in our lives.

We need the strength God can give in difficult times.

We can ask for God’s strength to help us through prayers for strength.

Prayers for strength are ways of admitting to God that we cannot do things on our own and that we need Him.

They convey humility and submission to God, His power, and His will.

What Does the Bible Say about Strength?

The Bible says a lot about strength, over 360 times, in fact.

We can see that strength is often associated with the Bible.

We can see Paul encouraging the believers in Ephesus to “be strong in the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:10)

On the other hand, weakness is often associated with people.

We see Jesus saying that “the flesh is weak” (Mark 14:38) while He was talking to His disciples in Gethsemane.

We can also find Paul telling the believers in Corinth that the Lord’s “power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

What we can take from all of this is that we have weaknesses, but God is strong, and His strength is even more amplified in our weaknesses.

Powerful Prayers for Strength

Prayer for strength and healing

Isaiah 40:29

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”

Lord Jesus Christ,

Life has been kicking me quite hard lately, and I am trying my best to be strong.

But God, I am tired and wounded. I need your strength and healing to get back up on my feet.

I believe that you are my strength and my shield, and I know that you can make me strong.

I need you right now, dear Lord.

I put my trust and hope in you, and I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for strength when someone hurts you

Deuteronomy 31:6

“Be strong and courageous.

Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Heavenly Father,

We are all brothers and sisters in you, and I know that we are supposed to love each other in your love, but at times, I find that hard to do, especially when others hurt me or cause me harm.

Give me the strength to overcome the pain, Father, so that it does not break me.

I also pray for the strength to forgive and move on from what happened, dear God.

Please give me the opportunity and the willingness to patch things up with my brothers and sisters.

I also ask for forgiveness if I ever had evil thoughts toward them. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Prayer for strength in mourning

Psalms 73:26

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Lord God,

I have been hurt before, but this is an entirely different kind of pain, and to be honest, I do not know how I can move past this.

The loss is too great, Father, and my spirit feels like it has been beaten up.

I know that your word says, “Be strong and courageous!” but my heart refuses to listen.

I need your strength and your comfort, Father.

Please forgive me and shower me with your grace in times when my heart is stubborn.

Embrace me, Father, because I need the assurance that you are there even in my weakest.

In the holy name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

Prayer for strength and hope

1 Corinthians 10:13

“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience.

And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand.

When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.”

Father in heaven,

David said in his psalm, “The Lord is my strength,” and I want this to be an absolute truth in my life.

I am sorry, Father, for the times that I relied on my strength when your help was always available to me.

Please let your Holy Spirit guide me and teach me the power of prayer.

I know that you always give us the best and today I say this prayer for guidance, strength, and hope because I believe that all of this is found in you.

This I pray, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for strength and courage in weakness

Isaiah 41:13

“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”

Heavenly Father,

You hold us, encourage us, and give us strength and courage.

From the time of the Israelites up to this moment, Father, you have never let us down.

Thank you, Lord, for always being within reach.

I come to you today to ask for you to give me strength because nothing is impossible with you.

Please help me strengthen my faith in you to give your name glory.

Please help me be strong for my family and loved ones.

Most of all, help me be strong enough that my life becomes a testament to your power and love.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for strength when you are feeling weary

Isaiah 40:31

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;

they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

Dear Lord,

You are our Father and friend, and you fill our lives with joy, and we praise you for it.

But right now, dear God, I am without peace and rest.

Your word gives me strength and wisdom, but sometimes, my burdens are so great that my knees buckle.

I ask you, God, to give me enough strength to get through this with my faith, life, and joy intact.

Many people before me have said prayers for strength and I lay down my prayers for strength at your feet today, Father God.

I pray, in Jesus; name, Amen.

Prayer for strength when struggling

Psalms 46:1

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

Lord Jesus Christ,

I believe that you, as our Father, want us to have the best life, and I know that you are working through me to achieve my full potential.

But I have been struggling a lot lately, dear Lord.

I need your help and guidance to triumph over my struggles.

I am praying that my mind, heart, and faith be strong enough. I put all my trust in you.

I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

God’s Promises of Strength

Prayers for strength are important in a Christian’s life, but it is also important that we get the assurance we need after praying.

We need to know that God promises us strength and that He can fill us with His power.

So, here are some of God’s promises of strength.

2 Timothy 1:7

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

2 Thessalonians 3:3

“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

Zephaniah 3:17

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.

He will take great delight in you; in his love, he will no longer rebuke you but will rejoice over you with singing.”

1 Peter 5:10

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast.”

Proverbs 18:10

“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”

Matthew 17:20

“He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly, I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.

Nothing will be impossible for you.”

In Summary

No one can measure the great and vast love God has for each of us.

God’s love goes beyond reason and explanations and we know that God’s strength is greater than anything we can possibly imagine.

The combination of God’s love for us and His strength gives us assurance and comfort in troubled times.

We should never think twice about approaching God for His help because He wants to hear from us all the time.

There is no shame in asking God for help when things get tough because He loves us and will never judge us or think less of us.

Prayers for strength are a necessity in our lives.
