19 Uplifting Bible Verses About Not Giving Up

During challenging times, these Bible verses about not giving up can bring hope, comfort, and strength for the journey ahead.

Getting tired is part of life, and many people, if not all, think of giving up because of this. There are many Bible verses about not giving up, and they may help us keep going even when we feel like giving up. These Bible verses are direct messages from God imploring us to keep holding on to Him no matter what is happening in our lives.

What are Bible Verses About Not Giving Up?

Even Christians get tempted to give up faith or commitments at times, and God understands us so well that He also understands our frustrations and reasons. But God still wants us to walk with Him, so He keeps cheering us up and cheering us on with His Word. We can find so many Bible verses about encouragement and strength.

We have many different reasons for feeling like giving up, but God’s love stays the same through it all. He never changes, and neither does His love. A Bible verse about not giving up can give us a lot of encouragement, clarity, and strength to keep going and keep the fire in our hearts burning.

Why Should Christians Not Give Up According to the Bible?

God refuses to give up on us

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)

We should always keep in mind when we are about to give up because God refuses to give up on us no matter what. He is God, and therefore He cannot bear to be around sin; it is just impossible, yet He refuses to give up on us sinners. He even says in the verse that He will make us as white as snow and wool even if we are scarlet because of all the bad things that we put in our lives.

The Bible is full of stories about people like Moses and Gideon who never thought of themselves as good enough for what God wanted for them, but God never gave up on them. In the end, they chose to trust God, and amazing things beyond their imagination happened to them and happened to others through them.

God loves us despite our mistakes

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

There is nothing on earth, in heaven and hell, that could separate us from God’s love, and that includes our mistakes. Others might think less of us when we make mistakes, or maybe we feel like we are not good enough when we make mistakes, but that is not the case. God will always love us no matter what, even if, at times, part of that love is letting us face the consequences of our mistakes and sins to help us grow.

God has a purpose for us

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

We might sometimes feel like giving up because we do not see any reason to keep going. Maybe we have not yet found our purpose in life, but we have nothing to worry about because God has a purpose for us: doing good works. We are called to be good to God, others, and ourselves.

Encouraging Bible verses about not giving up

Micah 7:8

“Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.”

The Enemy can surround us in darkness so intensely we feel lost and insecure about everything in our lives. But, God is there lighting our path towards Him, towards home.

Isaiah 43:2

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

No matter what we go through in life, no matter how challenging or complex, we have God’s promise that He will be there with us every step of the way.

1 John 5:4-5

“For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

The Bible does not tell us that God would remove all the hardships in the world or exempt us from experiencing trials because it is the way we grow. But, He promised that we would overcome each time, even if we were against the whole world.

Romans 8:28

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Parents always want the best for their children, and so does God want what is best for us because He is our parent.

Bible verses about not giving up on a relationship

1 Corinthians 13:7

“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”

No matter what kind of relationship we are in, may it be friendship, romantic relationship, professional relationships, or family, there must be love. Love stays positive and hopeful, and these are what many relationships need.

2 Timothy 1:7

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

Many things about a relationship can be terrifying, like letting other people in our lives, the changes that are bound to happen, and many more. But, God has given us the power, love, and self-discipline to overcome all this.

Ephesians 4:32

“Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”

Making relationships work would be next to impossible if there is no room for forgiveness.

Proverbs 10:12

“Hatred stirs up quarrels, but love makes up for all offenses.”

The kind of love that comes from God is the kind of love that can forgive and forget.

Bible verses about staying strong

1 Corinthians 9:24

“Don’t you realize that in a race, everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!”

2 Chronicles 15:7

“But as for you, be strong and courageous, for your work will be rewarded.”

The world says that no good deed goes unpunished, but the way of the Lord is the opposite because, in Him, no good deed goes unrewarded.

Genesis 50:20

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.”

This verse was said by Joseph the Dreamer after he revealed who he was to his brothers. They were jealous of him, so they sold him as an enslaved person in Egypt, but God worked in Joseph’s life, and he became a high-ranking government official and solved the problem of famine. When things seem rough, keep going, keep holding on, and trust God because He is working.

Job 23:10

“But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.”

Job experienced so many hardships in his life, but he never lost his faith, and he never gave up. He kept trusting God, and he was rewarded twice what he had before.

Bible verses about not giving up on commitments

Philippians 1:6

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”

We may want to give up because we feel inadequate, but we should never forget that God is always working in us, making us better than yesterday. The most important thing is, He trusts in us so let us not give up.

Hebrews 12:2-3

“We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then, you won’t become weary and give up.”

If we focus on what God has done and is currently doing instead of focusing on things we cannot control, we would not be motivated to give up.

Matthew 11:28

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

Our Lord Jesus Christ understands that we get tired and frustrated. He understands us, and that is why he is opening His arms to us to get rest from Him.

Isaiah 40:29

“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”

If we are tempted to give up because we feel too weak to keep holding on, God assures us that He gives power and strength to those who need it.

In Summary

It is okay to be tired or to think of giving up because God loves us despite this, and He understands our situation. But we must also understand God, His heart, and His will. He would never lead us to our ruin because He loves us dearly. He would correct us and discipline us at times, but this is all like a parent correcting their child to be better. So whenever we are feeling weak, let us take His hand, lean on Him, and keep walking with Him all the way.
