The Pharaoh thought of a solution and called the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, and commanded them to kill the Hebrew baby boys as soon as they were born.

Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego

Daniel 3:1-30

Babylon had invaded Israel, and their bright young men were taken and brought to Babylon with the invaders. There, they were trained to serve the king. Before long, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego gained the trust and admiration of those in the palace because of their integrity and intelligence.

King Nebuchadnezzar decided to create a gold statue of him and made a decree stating that once the music started, everyone should worship the statue of him. Whoever will disobey will die. The three friends refused to bow because they knew that they should only worship God.

They were brought before the king and were sentenced to death. They were thrown into a hot furnace, and the men who threw the three friends in it died from the heat. But they survived, and people saw a fourth man who looked like “a son of the gods.”

Since then, people believed in the Lord God. The experience moved King Nebuchadnezzar that he made another decree stating that anyone who said anything bad about the God of Shadrach, Meshach, or Abednego would be killed and their properties destroyed because they believed that no one other than God could save the way He saved the three men.

Joseph

Matthew 1:18-19

So the story went like this: Angel Gabriel told Mary that she would give birth to the Messiah through the Holy Spirit because Mary was a virgin. She was betrothed to a righteous man named Joseph.

In their culture in those days, a woman who got pregnant without a husband would face the death penalty. Joseph knew this and did not want Mary to face that punishment. So, he decided to leave her or divorce her quietly.

This way, instead of people saying that Mary is an unclean woman and wants her death, people would rather see Joseph in a bad light and sympathize with her. Joseph was planning to sacrifice himself for Mary. God did not allow this, of course. In a dream, the Lord spoke to Joseph and explained His plan. Joseph understood, married Mary, and raised Jesus with integrity.

Proverbs 19:1
