What Does the Bible Teach Us About Babies and Children?

Children are blessings

God created children. Some Bible verses even say that they are a reward from God. They give us joy and they inspire us to look into the future with hope. Babies are symbols of new beginnings. They should be nurtured, loved, and valued like the blessings that they are.

Children are to be nourished and guided

Children are born fully dependent on us. They need protection, guidance, and nourishment. We must give this to them. We should be there to teach them the scripture and to help them establish a good relationship with God.

Children are to be disciplined

No child is perfect in every way. They need to be taught what is right and wrong by their parents. They are a gift from God but we need to be responsible for them. We can use God’s word to point them in the direction that they should go.

Some children need extra care

Some children are not given the blessings that they deserve. Circumstances and unfortunate events sometimes take their parents away from them, their homes, or their childhood. We must be there for them. We should extend help and extend God’s love and grace to them.

Children are to be protected

This world is full of dangers for children. We must aim to remove these dangers so no child should ever have to face and suffer them. Let no child feel unsafe. A new baby is vulnerable. But the Lord has granted us the ability to protect them.

Children are in God’s favor

Children have God’s favor. He loves children unconditionally. He wants them to be able to come to Him whenever they want. Grown-ups might find children annoying at times but never in God’s sight. They are precious to Him.

5 Bible Verses for Babies

Psalm 139:13

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

Psalm 139:13 acknowledges a powerful truth. Every child is a gift. They are given life by God Himself. With the greatest care, babies are created by God.

Jeremiah 1:5

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:5 tells us of God’s wonderful vision for babies. God is excited for each baby. He plans the most beautiful things for each of them.

Ecclesiastes 11:5

“As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.”

We have advanced so much in terms of technology, but the creation of a new baby is still amazing. This Bible verse is a good reminder that God’s wisdom is so clearly seen in the creation of life.

1 Samuel 1:27

“For this child, I prayed; and the Lord has granted me the petition that I made to him.”

1 Samuel 1:27 Bible verse talks about a mother whose prayers have been answered. She has prayed long and hard for a baby, and God finally answered her prayer. A new baby brings joy to our lives.

1 John 4:19

“We love because he first loved us.”

1 John 4:9 is not a long Bible verse but its message is driven quickly and deeply. Parents are introduced to a kind of love they could never have imagined once their baby arrives. This amazing love is made possible by the love that the Lord has so generously lavished on us.

4 Bible Verses for Sick Babies

Matthew 18:10

“Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.”

Children do not deserve anything bad in this world. Children are a gift from God. Every gift deserves to be treasured, especially the ones that are from God.

Joshua 1:9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

This verse is a good thing to read to children and babies. They should always be reassured that God is always there for them. They do not have to be afraid.

Matthew 19:14

“Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Our Savior very rarely got angry. Jesus got angry when the disciples prevented the children from going to Jesus to be blessed because they did not think that Jesus was worth troubling for a few children. Every child is worth God’s love and attention. Jesus wanted little children to come to Him because they have a guileless trust in God. All people need childlike faith in God to experience the kingdom of heaven.

Galatians 3:26

“So in Christ Jesus, you are all children of God through faith”

Through God’s abundant love and rich sacrifice, we obtained the right to be called children of God.

4 Bible Verses for Babies’ Room and Nursery

Proverbs 22:6

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Proverbs 22:6 teaches us an important lesson. Children are very impressionable. While they are young, they should be introduced to Jesus and the Bible, so they can establish a relationship with God early on.

Psalm 139:14

“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.”

God created us but He did not just create us. The Lord took His time with us, and He still is not done working. He makes us better each day.

Psalm 8:2

“Through the praise of children and infants, you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.”

Babies and young children are so important to God. They are the foundation of God’s work.

Ephesians 2:10

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

It is good to know that we are born into this world with a purpose. The Lord prepared a path of good works for us.

5 Bible Verses for Babies’ Christenings

Numbers 6:23

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

We should pray for all the blessings children need. They depend on us and trust us to give the best to them.

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

God prepares the best plans for us. He sets us aside for great things. He always wants what is best for us.

James 1:17

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

Babies come from God. Like God, children come and bring light to our lives.

Psalm 127:3-5

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.”

Psalm 127 is rich. The Lord blesses us through children. He works in our lives through these little ones. Psalm 127:3 is a reminder that children are a gift from God so we are to point them to our Father. Treat them as a reward from God as we can learn valuable lessons from their inquisitive minds and trusting spirits.

Mark 9:36-37

“He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”

A lot of things are amazing about the nature of a child. They are capable of trusting completely. They are so full of life and hope. This is the way we should be with God.

Romans 15:13

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

Paul writes Romans 15:13 as a blessing and a prayer to God’s children. How can the God of hope fill His child with joy and peace? It is to trust in Him. Trusting in God leads to overflowing hope!

How to Lead Children Closer to God Today?

Praying

It is important to pray for children. As parents, it is our duty. From the moment we learn that we are expecting a child, we should start praying for them, for their health, and for their life. Let us ask the Lord through the guidance of the Holy Spirit to always keep them safe and healthy, and to show us how to be the best parents for them.

Modeling

Children pay more attention to what they see us do than what we say. Our lessons should reflect our lives. We must be good examples to them. We should introduce the scripture early on if we want them to grow close to God. If we want our children to grow up attending church, we should bring them.

Instructing

The scripture never lacks lessons for us. Ephesians 3:19 instructs us to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. We can teach our children about our Christian disciplines and practices through the stories in the Bible. We know that the scripture is powerful. The baby needs our guidance. We can help them memorize one Bible verse at a time. Let us instruct them in our faith as early as possible.

In Summary

Babies are gifts from God but being a parent is also challenging. It is a good thing that God is on our side. He loves us and He loves our baby. We are not alone. The Bible is full of promises. Let us read a Bible verse or two each day to equip ourselves for the days ahead. There is nothing to be scared of. God will never leave us or take us for granted.
