5 Bible Verses About Making Decisions

Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

We do not know everything about life.

We must accept that truth because the more we enforce our wants and needs over what God wants from us, we cannot move forward.

So before you decide, seek God’s wisdom and advice first.

Always remember that God knows all the possible outcomes, so we should trust in his guidance that He will direct us toward what’s best for us.

James 1:5

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

God has given us free will to decide on our own.

But that should not give you the liberty to toss aside God’s guidance and wisdom whenever you make a decision.

Always remember that God prepares us for everything life throws at us.

We must be sensitive to His voice and receptive to His teachings.

Proverbs 11:14

“For lack of guidance, a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.”

We know that God doesn’t speak to us directly, so we need to look out and listen carefully because God could be using someone to impart wisdom and guidance.

So, when asking for help to make a decision, ask for discernment to hear what God is teaching you through the people around you.

Philippians 4:6

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

We often forget that God isn’t only present in the essential things happening in our lives but also there during the quiet and down times.

So though it may seem like a simple decision, still ask for God’s guidance.

Put God above everything in your life and consult Him first before doing anything.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Consulting the Bible is always a good place to start whenever we have a difficult decision.

The Bible has numerous scenarios and lessons to use as a guide or an example to help narrow down our choices.

Significance of Prayers for Making Decisions

God wants the best for us.

God always has our best interest in mind.

As He said in Jeremiah 29:11, He plans to give us hope and a future.

So why do we still forget to consult God before making decisions?

Let’s make it a habit to remind ourselves that though we do not understand God’s plan for now, it doesn’t mean we should be afraid to follow Him.

God has never led us down a path that would harm us; it’s always for our growth and success.

To be confident in God’s plan.

Another purpose of praying before deciding is to be reminded of God’s plan.

We are forgetful, and we need constant reminders that would help us remember that we have a mission that is bigger than ourselves.

Praying reminds us to trust in God and be confident in His plan.

It also allows us to backtrack and see if our life’s direction is still toward God’s plan rather than our ambitions and goals.

To seek God’s will.

Coming into prayer before making a choice helps us seek God’s will above all else.

It reminds us of our purpose here on earth: to fulfill God’s will in us.

Praying for His guidance gives us the idea that our decision is still according to God’s will.

To discern and not fall prey to Satan’s deceit.

When we do not ask for God’s wisdom and discernment, all pieces of advice will seem correct.

We must remember that though God gave us the freedom to make decisions and choose our path, we still do not know any better than Him.

So before we fall victim to the enemy’s deceit, ask for God’s guidance and wisdom first.

Trust in God and allow Him to direct us in the right way.

Know if we need to wait or take action.

There are some choices where we need to wait before we take action because the time isn’t right just yet.

Asking for God’s counsel will help us know and understand if that situation calls for us to take action immediately.

Sometimes, doing something right away will only cause more harm than good.

So, to prevent that from happening, always seek God first.

How to Hear God’s Voice When Making Important Decisions?

Constantly praying and seeking God’s kingdom, we become sensitive to God’s voice.

Some may be more sensitive to God’s voice, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t able to hear Him.

That simply means that we need to put in more work and effort in studying, understanding, and putting God’s word into practice.

The more we put importance in asking for God’s guidance and wisdom first before we do anything, the more it trains us to depend on Him entirely and to be sensitive to God’s voice.

In Summary

We make decisions every day.

No matter how big or small that may be, please make it a habit to always ask for God’s guidance and wisdom before making a choice.

Remember, God knows and wants what is best for us; there is no doubt about it.

So, to have confidence in God’s will and not have doubts and worries, we pray for guidance and wisdom before making a decision.

Be patient with God’s answer and understand why His answer is what it is.

Always remember that He knows better and that there is a perfect time and reason behind His plans and actions.
