Philippians 4:7

Romans 8:6

1 Peter 5:7

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

Matthew 5:9

Proverbs 14:30

“A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.” 

To find peace of mind, we must first establish peace in our hearts. What is in our hearts will eventually translate into our actions, thoughts, and words. Job 22:21-22

Psalm 23:4

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.“

Undoubtedly, once one has genuinely walked with the Lord, that person can attest to the peace and comfort that only God can provide. We cannot plan peace, for it is only earned by walking with God. And as we walk, many forces will try to snatch us out of reach from the Lord. However, we find rest and comfort knowing that the Shepherd that leads us will go out of His way to rescue us.

We may find ourselves traveling many paths in our pursuit of green pastures. Sometimes, these paths are unforgiving and hard, to say the least. It will test not only the peace we hold in our hearts but also our faith. The devil will be tempting us in ways more than one and try to ruin both our external and internal peace. Hebrews 6:19

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.” 

There can never be peace and comfort if we let the tribulations of this world snatch our hope. Every day we are presented with events and challenges that can make us doubt and shake our hope, especially if our hope is anchored on the wrong foundation. This comes with knowing that the promises of the Lord will always stand true. He says He will deliver us, and He surely will, not in our way but in His perfect ways.

Romans 8:35

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?” 

Indeed, nothing can separate us from God, unless of course, we choose to detach from Him when things get overwhelming. It is the reason why attaining the peace and comfort of God is a constant choice we have to make.

Philippians 4:6

One can never find inner peace in the path of the wicked. It is a prerequisite to all forms of peace to turn our backs on things that are not of the Lord’s. Why? Because if we continue to remain in sin, we will have guilt. Not only guilt but the consequences of our wrongdoings can also destroy our inner peace and place us in a position of constant worry. However, there is no guilt or sin in seeking peace and pursuing it but life and joy.

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” 

Knowing that the Lord has plans for us, plans which are always for our good gives us inner peace. It is in a sense that God does not guarantee riches, great health, or a life without problems. However, if we continue to believe and trust in Christ, He promises to remain with us, comfort us in our times of need, and celebrate with us in heaven for all eternity. There is no better source of inner peace than knowing that God is for us.

How to Attain Peace of Mind According to the Scriptures?

While the Scriptures may have said it in a variety of ways, words, and representations, the central message is that Christ Jesus is the perfect giver and author of peace of mind. Why let our thoughts be troubled and doubt reign in our hearts? Isn’t it that the Lord whom we serve is the King of Kings?

The Scriptures hold power beyond our imagination. Not only do they bring peace of mind but comfort, joy, hope, and all the good things. The world will never be peaceful but the world should not be the source of our peace. God should! God is all we need, seek Him and everything else will follow just as Matthew 6:33 reminds us.
